Buttercup’s armor was drafted using a patterning method that is frequently used for puppet making. I put masking tape all over the areas where we wanted the armor and used reference images to trace out the desired shape. From there, I cut out the shape and created a flat pattern on butcher’s paper. The pattern pieces were then cut from EVA foam and painted to look like real armor. Buttercup’s caparison and saddle were draped and then cut to size. A piece of 1/4” plywood was added to act as a pummel for the performer to hold on to when as they got on the horse.
